‘The Maribel Foundation’ by Jennifer Lopez

EOnline has unveiled the name of Jennifer’s foundation, it’s called ‘The Maribel Foundation’. Emme’s middle name is Maribel which was the name of Marc’s sister who died of a brain tumor when she was young. In the story below you will also find out why exactly it’s called ‘The Maribel Foundation’. It’s pretty revealing I must add!

Emme Maribel Muniz with her dad, Marc.Jennifer Lopez will never forget the night she and husband Marc Anthony discovered a lump on daughter Emme’s head. Emme and twin brother Max were only three weeks old at the time.
“We both got very nervous, very very nervous, and I just remember my heart sinking to my feet, I looked at [Marc] and I said, ‘You know if anything happens, I’m not going to be okay, you know that right?’”
Lopez and Anthony rushed Emme to Children’s Hospital, where she underwent a battery of tests, including an MRI.
“Luckily in the end, she turned out fine.”
But it turned into something more for the hospital…Shortly after the scare, the singer-actress joined forces with CHLA to form the Maribel Foundation to help provide pediatric medical services to the less fortunate.
“I started to wonder, what if I couldn’t afford a doctor, or receive the medicines, the procedures?”
Lopez also debuted a new song last night, which she wrote for her twins. A recording of the ballad was played during a video highlighting the Foundation’s work. In it, Lopez sings,
“Let’s keep this time for us and make it last as long as we can. It’s already going too fast.”

Jennifers speech at The Womans Conference
Filed under: News Articles, Streaming Media, The Maribel Foundation by Lianne
Friend of the site Mehmet was so kind to record Jennifers speech with his digital camera. Hopefully within the next few days a better video will surface, but this is already a good quality video.
We’ve also managed to get a transcipt of Jennifers speech, which you can read at the end of this post. Enjoy!
The Womans Conference – Jennifer Lopez speech
Jennifer: Good morning. Are we truly present? I was really honored to come here and speak to you because I get to stand here not as an entertainer, but as a girl who grew up in the Bronx w/two sisters and a strong and loving mom. I stand before you as someone who loves being a woman. I love that when life hands us our greatest challenges, we look up and realize that capacity. I love the fellowship we’re sharing here today.
I hope you leave here today believing you are the leader you’ve been searching for.
I realized early in my own journey that I had to be my own champion. Nobody told me to do what I did – most told me NOT to do it. But I was lucky enough to have a strong feeling inside that I should listen to my gut and it would guide me. When I didn’t listen is when I had my biggest mishaps.
Certain relationships make you doubt who you are and what you’re capable of and what you deserve. Took me some time to get it right in that arena. That’s why I’m telling you you have to listen to that voice. In one of my lowest moments, when you don’t have a grasp of who you are or where you’re going, when you feel the world is questioning you and you are questioning yourself. I prayed for guidance, for strength, a message, something. I picked up my Bible and the passage said be happy for your trials and tribulations because you test your faith. Perseverance. We’ll come back to that.

It’s nice to see the tables turned and have Jennifer asking all the questions in stead of answering them. Enjoy your read!
Jennifer Lopez joins Capitol File in recognizing Marian Wright Edelman for her unwavering attention to children’s rights as the founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund.

AT THE MODERN DENVER ART MUSEUM during the Democratic National Convention, Jennifer Lopez, along with Capitol File, Viacom, Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Ken Salazar and other dignitaries, honored Marian Wright Edelman, who founded the Children’s Defense Fund 35 years ago. Lopez says that Edelman is the “biggest champion of children in our lifetime, a pioneer in the fight for children’s rights.â€
Inspired by Edelman’s accomplishments and leadership, Lopez has announced that she is joining forces with her sister Lynda to start a foundation focused on the health and well-being of women and children early next year. She urges everyone to “reach a little higher, dig a little deeper, do a little more to not only help those in need, but to effect a real change.†Before the reception, Lopez sat down with Edelman to find out about how she began her fight for children’s rights and what words of wisdom she can impart for the future.
JENNIFER LOPEZ: I have so many questions to ask, but I’ve narrowed it down. You’ve been involved in advocacy for many years; how did you land in the beginning on children’s issues?
MARIAN WRIGHT EDELMAN: I wanted to break the cycle of poverty. I saw, after I became a mother, that children had a lot of needs. Once you become a mother you begin to look at things in the world in a different way. I knew the things I wanted for my children and saw how many children didn’t have that. I came out of Mississippi, where I worked on the Head Start program, which was under assault. Continue reading »
